Good morning! While we wait to hear back from corporate about our demands, let's take a few minutes to explore what we meant here when we said that Fresh Market management has a history of safety issues and ignoring workers.
Let's talk about "America's cleanest grocer". Thread:
As we work toward the next stage of our effort we'd like everyone to know that Fresh Market has a history of compromising safety of its workers and customers. For us the pandemic was the last straw, we knew that if this slid by then it would become another issue not remedied
"The mounting despair is heightened by the lack of other job options: Supermarkets are among the few bright spots in an industry that has been ravaged by covid-related store closures and a sharp drop-off in consumer spending."
This is all familiar to us. We all feel cornered.
"Morale is crushingly low as the pandemic wears on with no end in sight. Overwhelmed employees are quitting mid-shift. Those who remain say they are overworked, taking on extra hours, enforcing mask requirements and dealing with hostile customers."

We are hosting a fundraiser for the workers who were unjustly fired by Ellwood Thompson's. Please consider donating and sharing this link so we can show them some working class solidarity!

Heya long time no talk. This is absolutely revolting and wildly irresponsible of our neighbors, Ellwood Thompsons. We here at Fresh Market Workers stand in solidarity with Ellwood workers and demand that their workers be rehired and given time to get tested #boycottEllwoods
This kind of negligence is exactly why we have not disbanded, despite being currently inactive.
Our employers can never be expected to completely ensure our safety. Only we can truly keep each other safe, and it's our concern for each other that keeps us on the look out.

If you live in Richmond #BoycottEllwoodThompsons they decided to fire a group of employees who didn’t come because they can’t risk catching covid after there’s been an outbreak. They haven’t gotten ALL of their employees tested before returning to work. #RVA#boycottEllwoods

We know for a fact that Fresh Market corporate management reads our tweets. We know they have our contact info. Give us the meeting we were promised or meet our demands so that we can work towards a safer work environment!

Additionally these are just a few of our unresolved issues with The Fresh Market.
Annual raises are still technically suspended. Our usual holiday bonus was confiscated and we were blamed. Our 3-strike termination policy spanning an entire year in timeframe is wildly unfair.
