For anyone thinking Preller will deal Miller or Morejon, you can think again. Only a handful of times has AJ EVER sent a reliever packing during the season. Here are the only instances he has done it:

Brad Hand (LHP) & Adam Cimber (RHP) – July 19, 2018

Brad Hand: 3.05 ERA in 41 appearances (44.1 IP) with the Padres. He had 24 saves in 29 chances, a strong strikeout rate (~13.2 K/9), and was an All-Star closer. Overall 2018 season (split): 2.75 ERA.

Adam Cimber: 3.17 ERA in 42 appearances (48.1 IP) as a middle reliever in his rookie season. Solid command and ground-ball.

Emilio Pagán (RHP) – April 7, 2022

~8.44 ERA (very small sample early in the season) in limited appearances (~5-6 IP) with the Padres before the early-season trade. He had struggled with command and home runs after a strong 2020-21. (Full 2022 split season ERA was higher post-trade.)

Taylor Rogers (LHP) – August 1, 2022 (Worth noting this was FOR Josh Hader)

4.35 ERA in 42 appearances (41.1 IP) with the Padres. He had 28 saves as the closer but was removed from the role after recent blown saves; solid strikeouts but some inconsistency. (Overall 2022 split: 4.76 ERA.)
