Malicious websites continue trying to lure me to their webpage with beautiful women wearing hardly anything. I am 63 years old, they’ll need photos of banana bread fresh out of the oven or bacon frying to get my attention.
Way to go Ringgold County, Iowa! This sign can be read along US Highway 169 as you enter Ringgold County, Iowa. My father used to say, “ You should never cuss a farmer with your mouth full.”
My father was a lifetime farmer and when I was a boy I remember him as being a pessimist, especially about the weather, but as he aged he became more of an optimist and when under pressure he’d say. “It always works out.”
My entire life I've heard the old saying “Knee high by the fourth of July” as a way farmers could measure the success of their corn crop, but, my father would always say, “We don’t measure our success until after harvest.”

In 1974 corn was worth $3.60 per bushel and I was earning $2 per hour and it was that day I decided I wanted to be a farmer.
47 years later, corn is worth about $5.70 per bushel and Iowa minimum wage is $7.25.
