At #Consensus Hong Kong 2026, our Head of APAC, Michele Fung, joined the panel “#Stablecoins 2026: Riding the Next Wave of Adoption” to talk about what’s actually driving adoption, and what’s still slowing it down. 💭

Here’s what’s interesting.

💳 Card-linked stablecoin spending hit $76B in 2025, up 673% – yet that’s still just 0.11% of global card volume. Fast growth, tiny penetration.
🤝 Merchants care about the basics: lower costs, near-instant settlement, no chargebacks.
🔎 The blockers are just as clear: regulatory uncertainty and gaps in consumer protection.
🏆 Asia leads the market, representing around 60% of global stablecoin payment volume ($245B), driven largely by cross-border trade and remittances.

The next phase could come from Latin America and Africa, where FX spreads, settlement delays, and limited banking access create real demand for alternative rails.
