Subtropical Storm #KAREN has formed over the far northern Atlantic.
At 44.5°N, it is by far the northernmost forming system on record in the Atlantic Basin, surpassing the previous record of 42°N by UNNAMED 1952.
@PettusWX Other commenters are right, this is normal and happens most years. A significant portion of desert Southwest’s annual rainfall comes from East Pacific tropical cyclones and their remnant moisture.
