👀SPOTTED👀
Last week our ecologist spotted this Gentoo Penguin on the beach at Thorney Island. Normally found in the Falkland Islands, Major Bite from the Royal Artillery based on the island suggested it was likely that this lone bird was a stowaway on a military flight.

Millions of volunteers took part in the Big Help Out on Monday, as the nation lent a hand in tribute to the King’s decades of public service. Thank you to everyone who joined The Final Straw Foundation litter picking in Emsworth and across the harbour.

Another wonderful incentive to monitor little terns through the breeding season. They are one of the UK’s rarest seabirds and are only on a handful of sites, including Chichester Harbour. Protecting these birds is paramount to their survival.

The groundnesting seabird colonies of the Solent (and North Atlantic) are now building nests and starting to incubate eggs. Be sure to give their breeding sites a safe distance from Apr-Aug so that eggs aren't damaged or cooled, & chicks are fed. Photo this week from langstone 🐤
You might have spotted fencing being installed around the coast over recent weeks to protect areas where birds might be nesting 💚 Terns are now arriving along the Solent coast every day, checking out places to nest 🐣
