As many companies have found out over time, Search is hard. REALLY HARD. Announcing/releasing a search product is a double edged sword for OpenAI. It could be huge for them... or could be a huge embarrassment. Also, jumping right to "pay for play" is NOT a good look and will not earn trust from users (see story below).
