With over 2.1 million people currently displaced, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has created a humanitarian crisis that continues to worsen. People are suffering from dehydration, hypothermia (freezing winter temperatures) and mass casualties. (1/4)

Teams are “racing against time to get the right medical supplies to the right places before aid can no longer reach militarily encircled towns and cities.” This webpage is an honest source of info for project updates, voices from the field, and interviews with personnel.(3/4)
A huge thanks to Dr. Heinzl and to everyone who joined us for tonight's talk. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! If you'd like to donate to MSF through our chapter, you can do so here: https://t.co/jrzbP1koqy
Per Dr. Heinzl, the big things that MSF requires for docs are: an MD, and experience (whether that’s pursuing an in-demand specialty or having familiarity with a certain country). Engage with MSF by asking questions, taking courses, getting your name out there. Lastly, travel!
Dr. Heinzl says: whether you’re in Pakistan doing surgery or you’re on the frontlines in rural Cambodia, you have to wake up in the morning and think “what are the biggest problems and what can we do about them?”
Climate change is another cause of insecurity in many countries, disrupting the ways things have been for thousands of years. When that happens, people are left with no choice but to move – leading to other issues like overcrowding and access to food and water.
The places where MSF works have one thing in common: insecurity. Whether insecurity comes from war, violence against women, or desperate economic situations, populations are left in danger.
Dr. Heinzl wrote a memoir about his time in Cambodia: "Cambodia Calling: A Memoir from the Frontlines of Humanitarian Aid". If your interested in this read, it can be found on Amazon: https://t.co/lKUDScLEuj
"témoignage" - In English, this means "to witness". Dr. Heinzl describes this as one of the first steps that many MSF doctors take when they might lack other resources and is what they did in Cambodia
Did you know that Dr. Richard Heinzl spent a full year in Cambodia? He was there following the liberation of the country in the 1980s after the genocide that took place from 1976-1979. Almost 2 million people were killed during this time.
Dr. Heinzl is sharing about happenstance in his life and career - along with passion and just the right amount of naïveté - which led to the creation of MSF Canada. It's not too late to log on and hear it live! https://t.co/7agsZftnwQ
