The Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created to support the CAIC, avalanche safety, and education.
CAIC will update forecast summaries anytime there is a significant change in avalanche conditions, so check the forecast if you plan to recreate on snow-covered slopes.
June 1 marks the end of @COAvalancheInfo daily forecasts for the season.
No forecast doesn’t mean no avalanches. Avalanches are still possible wherever there’s snow on a steep slope.

Did you know @COAvalancheInfo provides daily forecasts through the end of May?
It’s a great time to get up high for spring expeditions, but conditions can change quickly, especially with new snow followed by rising temperatures.

When transitioning, two skiers were caught in the avalanche and carried to the apron over a small cliff band. One skier lost their backpack and the other lost one ski and a pole.

Despite an unusual winter, we’ve made a strong impact across avalanche safety and education programs. Our Trailhead Outreach Program has connected with more than 3,400 backcountry users, and we’ve donated $200,000 to improve CAIC’s forecasting operations and technology.
All around the state, we’re seeing heavy snow and strong winds loading on a weak snowpack. Avalanches will continue to grow in size and probability as this cycle progresses.
Stick to low-angle terrain under 30° and away from avalanche paths.
Stay safe out there!
We know the stoke is high with the season’s biggest storm dropping new snow, but it’s not the time for steep lines and big objectives.

⚠️A series of storms is impacting CO this week. As expected, the avalanche danger is rapidly increasing as we see significant snow and wind.
It's been a rough winter for snowfall. Don't let powder fever impact your decision-making.
