vertex color shadows in old Rare games were wild
(they did this by modelling the shapes of the shadows into the polygons of the ground, then recoloring them)
@Hevaaak I actually don't think you need it in grass. That said, if you have areas of the game that might be like a dusty track, or if you end up implementing puddles or springs of water you can splash through, then I think an effect in that environment would work well.
