The road to hell is paved with good intentions, we had high hopes for the new reform assessor. Instead an inexperienced bureaucrat gives us more of the same.
The problem here was that the property sold at auction for $76,000 but was appraised at $194,000. Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the family is entitled to the auction amount less debt not the appraised amount less debt
Kaegi hiked taxes by 100-300% in some cases
Pappas' office is sitting on over $200 million owed over 91,000 taxpayers
But following the law regarding taxpayers who lost their homes would "ruin" Cook County? With all the errors, it's not right to be taking people's homes
A federal judge ruled Monday that Cook County is liable to pay back potentially millions of dollars to people who lost their homes in the county’s annual property tax sales, three years after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the system unconstitutional. https://t.co/hGEwgxL1uw
@FrankCalabrese The truth is obvious to any normal person, but ironically not the 2 elected officials here
Voters need to set a higher bar

While giving poor taxpayers triple digit tax hikes, Fritz was giving his own employee an illegal exemption & then later waiving penalties
Stuff like this has to stop
Man, they’re not just calling this part of Little Village “west Pilsen,” they’re calling it “Pilsen” while trying to sell a $750,000 single family home in a neighborhood with few single family homes.
We were genuinely perplexed when after posting religiously about property missing from the tax rolls, the Tribune praised Kaegi for his command of the data.
After seeing NBC Chicago’s post, it seems obvious that accuracy is not a priority for some like it is for us
Fun fact: back when the tax bills were on time, the Assessors Office had all the mailing dates set for the year & available for anyone to see in January
Today, township/gov’t offices can’t plan & have no idea when their offices will be flooded with taxpayers who just received their reassessment notices
Cook County property tax bills will be late again this year, the treasurer’s office bluntly affirmed this week, as various offices continue to try to catch up from last year’s troubles and address lingering ones. https://t.co/Y889rVKPQV
Usually only talk about property taxes but over 50% of our property taxes go to CPS. And now federal money to CPS for 800 Catholic students with disabilities isn’t going to these 800 students?
The Archdiocese of Chicago issued a statement regarding the abrupt ending by Chicago Public Schools (CPS) of services for Catholic school students who qualify under the U.S. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

A Chicago family was shocked by a $24,000 property tax bill — a 300% spike from their last payment cycle. What went wrong?

I maintain that perhaps the weirdest story in our recent election cycle is the amount of his own money Fritz Kaegi spent to run for Cook County Assessor.
He’s not a particularly charismatic or memorable guy and there’s a long line of Dems with more political clout than him. I’m not sure what higher office he thought was in reach, especially after making Big Real Estate his #1 enemy. And if he didn’t have designs on higher office that would be even weirder.
In any case, good riddance.
Good catch. Permit shows they put a lot of money in to renovate the building. Clearly no field check occurred to capture the renovation which explains the low value
Great example why physical inspections are necessary. Can't see renovations from aerial imagery. We tried telling Fritz that
