Out of the darkness of my life,
so much frustrated,
I put before you the one great thing to love on earth:
the Blessed Sacrament. . . .
There you will find romance,
glory, honour, fidelity,
and the true way
of all your loves on earth.
-J.R.R. Tolkien
God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons
and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them
the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit
and they shall be created.
And You shall renew
the face of the earth.
It’s so easy to join the fragile, loud, fearful and angry mob that roams from outrage to outrage, burning and pillaging all in our path.
The leaders of these mobs point to the newest outrage and we run at their command; filled with indignation & righteousness.
In the meantime, Gods Word collects dust on our tables and bookshelves.
The voice of the Shepherd is there in that Word, longing to heal you and lead you to Heaven.
Should you pause and hear His voice, there will be no ashes & destruction in your path, but only goodness and kindness.
Pray for the grace to learn the voice of the Shepherd.
Follow that voice.

Jesus lived with the disciples for three years; he revealed the Heart of The Father to them by His words and example.
St. Paul stayed in Ephesus for three years; teaching, earning his keep and living in their community. By word and example, he showed them what it meant to be a Christian.
Our God is a community; a community of life and love and if we wish to know Him better, then we need to invest ourselves in the community He puts us in or moves us to.
If we only see the people we worship with as obstacles to our worship, we have missed the point entirely.

The primary thing we know about the rise of the antichrist is that it will offer us easy answers at the price of the truth.
More than ever, I see the value and power of us pursuing the truth.
To love truth means our political allegiances will be shaken.
It means that we will have to recognize the political movements or leaders we adore lie, but do so in a way we are comfortable with.
We need to fall in love with the truth again.
Pray today.
Pray that we put our individual and collective hunger for truth before our intellectual, emotional, spiritual, or ideological comfort.

"When I say faith, I mean a land of darkness & a land of pain, in a manner of speaking. For it is not easy to walk in darkness wondering about the abysses & crevices & pitfalls that might be wide open at our feet." -Catherine Doherty
