@j_b_kennedy Psychologists, psychiatrists and neurologists with long covid are in a unique and unenviable position of both being sick and suddenly realizing most of their colleagues are afflicted with an unshakable professional group delusion.
@oldfshndanne@davidtuller1@AlanLevinovitz Count yourself lucky you haven't come across the long covid is this super duper unique new thing that is totally not an umbrella term to aid inclusive research and more accurate subtyping crowd.
@erikmoldwarrior@davidtuller1@awgaffney@AlanLevinovitz Wonder how much of top tier academia is just laundering politically convenient research findings to appeal to midwit sensibilities.
At this point it has gotten so bad it's almost like one of its primary functions.
@Duskblossom@hannahspierMD Lol not so long ago most doctors confidently made the exact same mistake about MS patients (esp relapsing remitting cases) they now make about ME, fibro etc.
Medicine needs to spend more time teaching history and humility so they stop making the same mistakes over and over.
@moreisdifferent@Duskblossom@hannahspierMD The stigma argument is exactly backwards.
Many people are persisting with the higher stigma dx because they understand better than their doctors that the lower stigma option routinely presented to them is at best simply wrong and at worst harmful.
@moreisdifferent@Duskblossom@hannahspierMD Every time I hear the old canard that people just don't want to accept dx due to stigma, am reminded of UK doctor with ME who told his practice he was retiring due to depression because he couldn't face scorn of admitting he had ME.
@subversivepsych Or rather change comes one funeral at a time*
* not a death threat .. for all the hysterical BPS types out there gripped with paranoia.
Just a famous observation that beliefs often only shift when the old ideologues die of old age.
@useless_priest Mind body folks when they publish their latest research ..
“I’m one of the few people you’ll meet who’ve written more papers than I’ve read.”
@hannahspierMD Have you considered that whatever is compelling you to post like this might have a deeper psychological origin that's .. to put it politely .. not entirely healthy .. and you might want to get that looked into?
@JackHadfield14 Doesn't seem to see the irony her own post displays of her own protectiveness of belief in primacy of an illness narrative than rather more obviously ..
the illness itself
.. from which some sort of narrative to describe its main characteristics is an inevitable outcome.
@GemzME@useless_priest At no point since the name ME was coined, no matter what historical criteria are used, were any of myalgia, encephalitis or myelitis required for diagnosis.
Relied on clinical findings dressed in language of pathology. No use glorifying even greater ignorance of the past.
@AltJenFitz Funniest doctors are the ones who believe we visit them due to attention seeking.
Ah yes .. the profession I try to avoid like the plague because they confidently hallucinate the latest psychobabble fad any time they come across anything they don't understand.
@hannahspierMD I know right. You keep randomly lashing out at entire patient populations because a few people mildly disagreeing with you undermines your overweening identity as a competent medical professional.
