Best new light novels of 2025 thread!!
1) Miri Lives in the Cat's Eyes
A touching supernatural romance story with Golden Age mystery elements. Unusual combination, but it really makes the plot stand out! University aged cast is also a plus.
Light Novels that capture the state of depression in its characters so extremely well that they just leave you feeling so incredibly sad once done.
Do not let some of these covers deceive you; they get very dark.
This but also in a language that isnโt English if possible. Because the way Kevin has fumbled entire passages is genuinely maddening. You wouldnโt even know that Jinshi has asked for Maomaoโs consent to pursue her in a relationship if it was for him. Because he just cut it out!
God I love the Brunhild light novels. The first volume is technically a standalone while all the others are prequels, but taken together they're an epic saga about the cyclical nature of violence and revenge... They all range between 8/10 to 10/10 LNs imo

The idea that a faux-China setting that's not meant to be historically accurate could even cause MILD upset among some people is the reason why we get the same boring faux-Europe setting in every fantasy ever
because of the perceived "barrier" to entry

โItโs not technically set in China, but the setting is very much inspired by China. There are also some Japanese sensibilities in thereโ

Finished 'Sexiled' (Light Novel), I was so sold on seeing 2 badass women fighting incels and sexism, but I was so invested in this series and I'm really glad I read it. It's a really fun time and I love Tanya and Laplace so much+

Please explain this to me lol. Assuming I know nothing about a person other than they are a dog or cat person, I would rather place my life into the hands of the cat person.
I am a dog person, and I am married to a dog person.
Since there's only has a small handful of publishers (in both EN and JP), it's fairly easy to keep track of new releases on a single spreadsheet tab.
From there, it's a matter of reading the blurbs, looking at the art and characters, and deciding what to pick up.
The good thing about being a light novel fan is that it is easy to find the books you like. Almost everybody first finds LNs through an anime they like.
It's a bit harder to find good LNs that haven't been adapted, but still very doable.
The recent comments of "it's impossible to find f/f SFF" or "there's no m/m fantasy" (both demonstrably untrue) have reminded me of something I learned as a librarian, which is that most people genuinely don't know how to find books they will like.
