Maybe this is a generational thing, but when the neighbors went away, somebody grabbed their mail, watered their plants, or kept an eye on the house. Nobody called it a favor. That’s just what neighbors did.
Replacing tactile physical buttons with laggy touchscreens just so you have to navigate three sub-menus while driving 75 mph on a dark highway to adjust the defroster is the single worst safety downgrade in modern automotive history.
new lyme bullshit!? peanut butter now tastes SPICY TO ME!? i mean it’s not bad, i like spicy, but i don’t need more allergies 😠 fucking man made sickness i hate this shit. i am victim of a BIOWEAPON!
The monarch butterfly population has gone up this season by 64% and one of the reasons is because people are planting pollinators gardens. Look what we can do together with a common goal in mind. We need to plant more next year as their population is still not stable.
Exceptionally heavy El Niño rains have triggered millions of dormant seeds beneath the soil, transforming vast stretches of one of the world’s driest regions into a spectacular carpet of flowers. 🌸🌸🌸
The Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, has been dramatically transformed following heavy rainfall in northern Chile. Areas that are typically barren and parched are now covered in vibrant violet and white blossoms, a rare natural phenomenon known as the “flowering desert.”🏵️🏵️🏵️
the enzyme in pineapple that dissolves protein is so powerful that pineapple workers develop fingerprint erosion from handling the fruit with bare hands.
the same enzyme taken as a supplement dissolves the inflammatory proteins in your body that cause joint pain, swelling, and slow recovery. your inflammation is protein. this enzyme eats protein
bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme extracted from pineapple stems. it has been used in Central and South American traditional medicine for centuries to reduce swelling and accelerate healing. the enzyme is so aggressive that it literally digests the tissue it contacts, which is why fresh pineapple makes your mouth tingle. the tingle is bromelain dissolving the surface proteins in your oral tissue
the mechanism: bromelain breaks down fibrin and inflammatory cytokines in the bloodstream through direct enzymatic digestion. the swelling around an injury is largely composed of fibrin deposits and inflammatory proteins. bromelain enters the bloodstream and physically dismantles these proteins the way your stomach digests food. it eats the inflammation
• reduces post surgical swelling by 50% when taken before and after procedures. European surgeons routinely prescribe it before dental, nasal, and orthopedic surgery
• matches the anti inflammatory potency of diclofenac (a prescription NSAID) in a head to head trial for knee osteoarthritis. same pain reduction. zero gastrointestinal side effects
• accelerates bruise healing by 3 to 5 days by dissolving the trapped blood proteins that cause discoloration
• reduces sinus congestion by breaking down the mucus proteins that block nasal passages. the same mechanism that dissolves fibrin dissolves mucus. one enzyme clearing two types of protein
• enhances the absorption of antibiotics by 40% when taken together. the enzyme increases intestinal permeability to the drug molecules. European pharmacists dispense it alongside antibiotic prescriptions routinely
• must be taken on an empty stomach to work systemically. taken with food it digests your meal proteins instead of your inflammatory proteins. empty stomach is non negotiable
the pharmaceutical anti inflammatory market generates $30 billion annually. a pineapple enzyme that matches prescription NSAID performance without destroying the stomach lining costs $12 for a 2 month supply. one has a sales force. the other has a pineapple on the label
500 to 1,000mg on an empty stomach 2 to 3 times daily between meals. the "between meals" part is critical. with food it becomes a digestive enzyme. without food it becomes an anti inflammatory. doctor's best and now foods both make reliable bromelain at therapeutic doses. $12 for 2 months
the enzyme that eats the inflammatory proteins causing your joint pain, swelling, and slow recovery has been sitting in a pineapple this entire time. and the prescription it matches in clinical trials costs 10x more and damages the stomach lining that the pineapple enzyme leaves untouched.
Liatris ligulistylis, also known as meadow blazingstar, is irresistible to Monarch butterflies. They flock to the purple flower for the August/September magical monarch migration

back to us reusing paper towels and ziplocks, i almost think this is a far stretch. it’s that bad it’s on my google news page no judgement! but okaaaay 🔥
Why spend $3,000 on a fence when you can build a dead hedge for free?
Two rows of stakes driven into the ground, and everything you prune goes in between them. Branches, limbs, brush, the stuff you'd otherwise be dragging to the curb.
It gets denser every year. The bottom composts down, you keep feeding the top, and after a couple of seasons it's a more solid barrier than a wooden fence.
It's not just a fence, it's also habitat. Wrens and catbirds nest in the structure. Cottontails, chipmunks, toads and skinks shelter at the base. Solitary bees and ground beetles overwinter in the gaps.
Germany has been building these as wildlife corridors since the 1990s. The UK uses them on riverbank restoration.
There's a falcon the size of a robin that'll hunt your yard for free, and you can build it a house this weekend.
The American kestrel hovers over open ground and drops on grasshoppers, voles, and mice all day. It's the most widespread falcon in North America, found in nearly every state, but its numbers are down by roughly half since 1970.
Nobody is certain why. Pesticides thinning the insect base, open grassland getting developed, West Nile, and predation from Cooper's hawks are all on the list. Cavity loss is on it too - and that's where you come in.
Kestrels nest in tree holes, and we keep cutting down the dead trees that hold them. Fortunately, kestrels take to boxes readily.
The whole thing comes out of a single 8-foot 1x10. Floor about 8 by 8, 14 to 16 inches of depth below the entrance, a 3-inch round hole near the top, and a side or roof panel hinged for cleaning.
Put 2 to 3 inches of wood chips in the bottom, because they bring no nesting material and the eggs will roll on bare wood. Untreated pine, an afternoon, about twenty bucks.
Mount it 10 to 20 feet up on a pole or a dead tree at the edge of a field, pasture, or large open lawn, hole facing the open ground, pointed south or east. Baffle on the pole so raccoons can't climb it.
If you get one, the American Kestrel Partnership takes nest box data from anybody. Your box becomes part of how researchers figure out the rest of the decline.
