Re-reading Iron Flame in preparation for Onyx Storm and I came across an interview where Yarros says aninspiration for FW was how angry the rewriting of history made her. Looking through it now, the erasure of folklore & stories are tied to the erasure of culture and memories.🧵
and throughout the series, Violet refers to her copy of "The Fables of Barren" which outline what could be creation myths and folklore about venin. Her father specifically gifts her the book to remind her that if they lose their folklore, they will lose their link to the past.

The Winter Solstice is fast approaching and with it comes the fall of the Holly King to the Oak King! Marking the longest night of the year, the battle between the two brothers ends the winter reign and starts the steady trek towards summer.
