@reverendofdoubt Best advice I ever heard about residency was my chief at the time reminding the applicants that residency occurs during a transition period of life, and that these are the people you choose to be around for big life events. You have to be confident that they will hold you up.

They can pass it on to family, relisten to it.
They seem to like it. Minimal added time.
It's not surprising that teach-back discharge instructions lead to better retention and a higher rate of followup appointments, but discharge using teach-back took LESS TIME than standard discharge.

Hospitals love residents. They get paid ~ 125K per resident per year by CMS, and then pay each resident about 60K. A resident can do the work of almost two PAs. PAs cost over 100K per year to employ. For a 5 year residency the difference is about a million dollars.
Biden is about to come on shift with 100 in the waiting room, 24 ICU holds, 6:1 nurse ratios, shortages on PPE, dilaudid, haldol, morphine, ativan, ketamine & zofran. And every patient has covid.
Oh & the offgoing team stopped seeing pts 4 hrs ago, and left already w/o signout.
