Interesting game 1 of the #StanleyCupFinal. The Oilers had plenty of chances. Did they deserve a better fate? I'm debating that question. Leaning towards "no." Florida played well.
The $20M is just for the bunker suites. They also sell conventional suites.
3. Non-premium Season Tickets
In general, the Kings set a goal for the total number of seats it will sell as season tickets. Before the first Cup, that target # was around 9,500 (in 2010/11).
Fans have noticed that large portions of the arena on TV broadcasts look empty. It's because these bunker suites are often unoccupied but paid for. The Kings don't care about fan experience or bad optics. They care about profits PERIOD. It works for them.
2. Corporate sponsors focus.
The Kings sell what it calls four bunker suites. These are in the lower bowl and considered "ice side" seating. They are each sold for $20M/yr. Total gate revenue is ~$88-90M so these bunker suites are huge in securing the gate receipts floor.
1. Premium vs non-premium.
The Kings are smart in that it uses two different sales teams to sell out their season tickets. AEG handles the premium. The Kings sell the non-premium.
This is done so that account managers can ensure premium-to-corporate account synergies.
How does the team pull it off?
It does so through the following strategies:
1. Premium vs non-premium season ticket sales via two sales teams
2. Corporate sponsor-focus and bunker suites
3. Maximizing the percentage of season tickets relative to full capacity
🧵 LA KINGS REVENUES - TICKET SALES
The NHL makes a greater % of its revenues from ticket sales (called "gate revenues"). Gate revenue amounts to 44% of total revenues for the league (in 2022/23 according to Sportico).
LA Kings ticket sales generate league leading profits.
When front office changes begin for the #LAKings, I wonder who will be joining Rob Blake, assuming that he's gone? Will Luc Robitaille continue to rely on former teammates and friends?
Another post-season, another very early exit by the #LAKings.
Complain all you want about the officiating. Point to the EDM special teams play. But let's face facts. EDM is just a superior team all around. LAK still has a long way to go to be a contender.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that the #LAKings are losing to EDM on the special teams play. No, it's because EDM has been better in all aspects of the game, and it hasn't been close.
#LAKings are scheduled to practice Friday, 11:00 AM, at the @toyotasportsctr. Click on the photo below for tips for attending Kings practices: https://t.co/QkAAgAcQQj
So far, a good bounce back game for the #LAKings, except for one area of concern: all of their goals have come off the rush. Unless they can generate offense off their forcheck, this is still likely to be a short series for them.
