I have also added my name to this letter. @MPIainDS is right - we mustn’t look away from the CCP’s oppression of Hong Kong and the outrageous prison sentences meted out to pro democracy advocates .
The UK made a commitment to the people of Hong Kong. We cannot simply look away as the CCP tears up the Sino-British Joint Declaration and imprisons those who stand up for freedom and democracy. I've joined a cross-party group of MPs, peers, and international human rights leaders calling on the Prime Minister @10DowningStreet to act over Joshua Wong, who now faces the prospect of life imprisonment.

Britain must stand by its word, summon the Chinese Ambassador and demand the release of Joshua Wong and others like British citizen Jimmy Lai imprisoned for peacefully defending Hong Kong’s freedoms. @FCDOGovUK
1/ Today, a bipartisan group of US lawmakers introduced a bill to sanction 49 Hong Kong judges, prosecutors & gov't officials. They range from appeals judges to low-level prosecutors. If passed, it would make clear that ANYONE participating in persecution can be held accountable.
No one - no one in the world - should dignify the #CCP’s sham, rigged process for selecting puppet district councillor in #HongKong by calling it an “election”. It’s not. It’s a totally rigged sham selection with no credibility whatsoever

Leading Hong Kong pollster to stop releasing poll results on some sensitive topics, including questions on Tiananmen and Taiwan independence. Also this- would you identify yourself as a HKer, Chinese, Chinese in HK or HKer in China? https://t.co/sq3DLbEBS8
If #HongKong’s authoritarian regime thinks I can’t say anything I like while living in Australia as an Australian citizen, then how can HK people be assured that one can say anything one likes in HK itself?
“China mooted the idea of expanding Brics last year … If nations enter who are beholden to China through ties of debt or investment, Brics will look ever less like a steering group for the emerging world and more like a fan club for an aspiring hegemon.” @alanbeattie
Outrageous that a man and woman linked to @nathanlawkc, one of the eight #HongKong activists abroad with a HK$1 million bounty on his head, have been arrested for colluding with foreign forces and committing acts with seditious intent.

“I can understand why, under the logic of mainland China, [requesting democracy] can be seen as subversion. But if a common law court endorses this, I think it’s causing mutual destruction to the Basic Law.” -@KwaiLamHo, eloquent as ever, testifying today. https://t.co/ZGcoLF9mJO
Just another anniversary that changed my life: 4 years ago today, a quarter mil pro-democracy #HongKongers marched in #YuenLong I co-organised to show that they're not afraid of #Peking-sponsored terrorist attacks.
The #HongKong Gestapo is still looking for me b/c of this, FYI.
