Surprised by the Latin Vulgate:
I often ask myself, how would I say it in Latin? For example, Nehemias has: “They bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” The Vulgata has it as: “incurvati sunt et adoraverunt Deum proni in terram.” Beautiful, isn’t it?

Surprised by the Latin Vulgate:
I often ask myself, when I hear the Novus Ordo reading in English, how would I say it in Latin? For example, Nehemias has: “he was standing above all the people.”

The Vulgata has it as: “super universum populum eminebat”. Let that sink in for a while. To stand above: eminere super. He was not hovering above. He was eminenting. (ex maneo)

Latin does not match English in its way of linguistic expression. Here is an example:
Up to the knees: crurum tenus. Down to the roots: radice tenus.
How to speak in proper Latin? Read a lot. Otherwise you might say: sursum usque ad genua. Bleh!
