This Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about my mom, and all the lessons she taught me. I'm proud to honor her memory with the Ann Dunham Water Terrace at the Obama Presidential Center.
Brionna Johnson was told she would have to end her pregnancy and undergo a hysterectomy. Instead, a 27-pound fibroid was removed while preserving her pregnancy and her ability to have children. Too often, Black women face limited options or are not heard. This outcome shows what is possible when patients are listened to and given real care. Equity in maternal care is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

Now: Dozens of tenants from across NYC are at the first of its kind Tenant Town hall to weigh in on priority issues that must be addressed in Mayor Mamdani's housing plan.
Organized tenants at 109 E 9th St rallied on 3/24/2026 after NYC HPD and OATH found several counts of harassment by their landlord, Michael Geylik. The City also took the rare step of rescinding his Certificate of No Harassment (CONH).

This is awesome. As soon as President Joe Biden stepped off his flight from South Carolina, he was immediately met with love and applause. America loves Joe!
"I didn't get this man's name. He works at the Subway in Walmart in Bluefield, VA.
He made my lunch today with amazing enthusiasm and pleasure! He was courteous and very professional. Then, as I was eating, this elder woman came in. He came from behind the counter, helped her to a table, read her the menu, explained the different meal deal options, and then went and made her lunch.
He went above and beyond customer service! I wish I would have gotten his name, but if you go eat there, be sure to tell him what a great job he does! His warm hospitality today certainly warmed my soul!"

As snowfall begins to blanket our city, we have decided that tomorrow will be a REMOTE school day for @NYCSchools to keep everyone safe from hazardous weather conditions. There will be no in-person instruction.
Over the past week, my administration has prepared for this moment – ensuring devices are in hand, families are informed and educators are ready to welcome students online.
For high schoolers and students in grades 6-8 with a previously scheduled professional learning day, Monday will remain a day off.

I put these two clips of Daddy together because I want to share him saying “I’m tired of marching,” then, after continuing the multifaceted work of nonviolence, saying “I’ve been to the mountaintop.”
The 2nd clip is from the speech he gave the night before he was assassinated.

As a high school student, Dasia Taylor noticed a serious flaw in the way infections are detected after surgery. Traditional sutures give no visual warning when something goes wrong, often allowing infections to worsen before they are discovered. Determined to find a solution, she developed sutures that change color when harmful bacteria are present.
What began as a science fair project quickly gained national attention and evolved into a patented medical innovation. These sutures could help doctors catch infections earlier, reduce complications, and save lives, especially in under resourced hospitals. Dasia’s work is a powerful example of how curiosity and compassion can turn a simple idea into something with global impact.
