Mark my words: Many people miss the importance of Raila’s AUC bid both in the Kenyan context and without. Since 1992, Raila has been the symbol of national grievance politics and whistle blower in chief, and this we know and accept. Which is why exactly two years after every election we ask ‘where is Raila?’ His silence seems like a hopeless night and we have no torches.

This image, however true, is not the full picture. We forget that Raila also has the uncanny ability to agitate for change but also know exactly when to press the brakes and embrace: a coalition government in 2002 to defeat Moism, a coalition deal in 2008 to deliver the 2010 constitution, a handshake in 2018 to remind us all that we need to be better through the BBI process.

In more present times Raila and Ruto have shelved their issues to shock the Gen Z protests but also to give this country much needed room to think and see Kenya through more pragmatic lenses.

It is this Raila, the strategic alliance, peace and constitution maker that we are lending to Africa. Because Africa needs him. Africa doesn’t need a man with a big seat, it needs a man who brings change without being head of state. Raila inspires and provides change without needing to be head of state.

The AUC chair position is not one for power, but influence and the delicate hand to turn crisis into opportunity! Hate him or love him, Raila can turn things around and I think it’s time Africa turned around!

SUSPECTS IN SH160M SACCO FRAUD ARRESTED

Detectives have arrested 9 employees of a savings and credit SACCO society in relation to the disappearance of approximately Sh160 Million.

The employees of Njiwa Sacco, belonging to staff of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) were rounded up following comprehensive joint investigations, conducted by detectives and officials from the spy agency.

The 9 include senior SACCO officials Amos Kipchumba who was the internal auditor, the loans manager Violet Wali, the accountant Caren Langat and system analysts Hamisi Zaunga and Miriam Nthenya.

Others are a teller identified as Nicodemus Osiemo, Eric Rono from Sure-step Systems, Moses Ntoinya an NIS officer who colluded with the SACCO staff to siphon the funds and Tony Wabomba a former employee of the SACCO society.

The 9 who have since been dismissed from the SACCO face nine counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing by servant, false accounting by servant, negligence, computer fraud, forgery, uttering a false document, access with intent to commit an offence among other charges.

They will be arraigned in court on Monday, September 25, 2023 to answer to their crimes.

Meanwhile, detectives are on the trail of three other suspects who have since gone into hiding.

The agencies involved in the investigation of this high level fraud shall continue to investigate and expose corrupt individuals and networks, while taking concrete steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public entities.
