As the world faces ongoing economic uncertainty, #Budget2026 makes careful choices to protect what matters most to British Columbians. We’re safeguarding the services people rely on, while strengthening and growing BC’s economy.
The bill allows amending or suspending laws and regulations related to the economy or trade retaliation. The cabinet can “amend any law, overwrite any policy, [or] change any regulation” by simple order-in-council if it’s deemed necessary to respond to U.S. tariff actions . This effectively cuts out the legislature on economic decisions during the emergency period.
Once the NDP pass Bill 7, they won't even need the legislature to do stuff like this - @Dave_Eby can just sign emergency orders eliminating entire taxes without even a public bill.
We should enjoy the quaint prospect of legislature debate while it still exists.
