TRAGIC LOSS OF A YOUNG INDIAN SEAFARER

20-year-old Atul Jaiswal from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, tragically lost his life onboard MV Jag Akshay in China.
His family is urgently seeking the repatriation of his mortal remains and official updates and verification regarding his case.

We appeal to the concerned authorities and stakeholders to support the family and help bring Atul home.

4 days. No answers. A wife’s tears have run dry.
Sumit Kumar Singh, Oiler from Vaishali, Bihar, was on duty in the engine room of MT El Gaia when it was hit in the early hours of 13 September off Oman. Fire. Chaos. 23 of 25 crew pulled out. Two men still unaccounted for — one of them our brother Sumit.
His wife has two small children who do not understand why their mother collapses and cannot even drink water. Every hour of silence is another wound. Advisories and statements do not bring a missing seafarer home. Political theatre does not de-water a flooded engine room.
Someone must be accountable.
We demand, now:
• Immediate, transparent search of the engine room and vessel by Omani authorities with Indian Embassy present
• Hourly updates to the family — not another 24-hour void
• Full SAR intensification by Royal Navy of Oman, MEA India, Embassy of India in Oman
• Accountability from owners, managers and whoever struck a working tanker carrying 14 Indian seafarers
A seafarer’s life is not collateral. A wife waiting is not a footnote.

Forced into a war zone. Hit by 4 drones. 8 bomb splinters still inside his body. Family paying the hospital bills.
OS Rahul Choudhary (INDoS 23ZQ1563) joined MV VOLGAA 4007 (IMO 8728816) on 27 July 2026. Crew refused in writing to sail to Russia. They were forced to proceed.
19 August 2026: vessel attacked by 4 drones. Rahul suffered fractured ribs, shoulder fracture, head injury, abdominal injury and multiple splinters in thigh, leg, chest and head.
Rescued by Russian Navy. Incomplete treatment in Novorossiysk. Ticket given only till Delhi. Family paid the rest. Luggage and documents destroyed in the blast.
Now admitted at DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Doctors confirm 8 splinters remain inside. Some cannot be operated — risk of paralysis.
Till date: no wages, no medical cover, no compensation, no repatriation costs.
This is abandonment after forcing a seafarer into a war-risk area. Clear MLC 2006 violation.
FSUI demands DG Shipping act now: pending wages, full medical care, injury and war-risk compensation, reimbursement of travel and personal effects.
A young seafarer is fighting for his life. Those who sent him there have walked away.

What is the purpose of attacking commercial vessels with foreign nationals on board?
1. Cargo and vessel custody?
2. Paralysing whose economy?
Look at the reality:
• Owners belong to a third country
• Flag is a Flag of Convenience
• Crew are Indian or other third-country nationals
Most vessels attacked by one side or the other are back at sea.
What have both parties achieved?
Neither the cargo nor the ship — only innocent seafarers killed.
Seafarers are civilians. Not casualties of war.

Urgent humanitarian appeal.
In the early hours of 13 September 2026, MT El Gaia was attacked miles off the Oman coast. The vessel is now being towed to Oman.
Brother Sumit Kumar Singh, Indian seafarer, is reported missing, along with one other foreign national.
We appeal to all seafarers, fishing vessels, naval units, coast guards and ships in the Gulf of Oman / Musandam / Hormuz approaches:
Please keep a sharp lookout for any person in the water, life raft, lifebuoy, debris or floating object. Report immediately to nearest coastal authority / MRCC / Oman Maritime Security.
Time is precious. One life is one family.

#Seafarers’ lives are not countable.
At the BRICS Summit in Delhi, the safety of those who keep global trade moving was rightly highlighted.
On 13 September, the Panama-flagged tanker MT EL GAIA was attacked off the Oman coast.
Oiler Sumit Kumar Singh a young seafarer of age 35Yrs, one of 14 Indian crew, remains missing. Thirteen were rescued. Two days have passed with no sign of him.

Importantly, MT EL GAIA does not appear on the US OFAC SDN list, nor on EU, UN or UK sanctions lists.
So who hit this commercial vessel carrying ordinary seafarers?
Behind every seafarer is a family waiting and hoping. Their quiet courage and the risks they face must never be treated as secondary.
