Ukraine Now Has Leverage Over Trump
For years, Washington could control Kyiv with one threat: do as we say or lose American support. Trump has thrown that power away. He cut the aid so deeply that Europe now pays most of Ukraine’s bills, which means Ukraine has far less to lose by ignoring him.
At the same time, Ukraine has found something Trump badly needs. Its drone strikes on Russian refineries are helping push up diesel prices, and high fuel prices could cost Republicans the midterms. Trump knows it, which is why he has pressed Kyiv to stop the attacks.
So ask the obvious question: why would Ukraine help him?
He cut its aid and eased sanctions on Russian fuel. Ukraine can simply keep hitting refineries for its own military reasons and let American voters, 62 percent of whom side with Ukraine according to Economist/YouGov, punish Trump for the price at the pump.
Trump once told Zelensky he didn’t have the cards. I’d say he’s holding a pretty good hand now.
Russians are monsters, child murderers, and terrorists!
There is no excuse for crushing homes onto the sleeping families inside, no excuse for killing kids, and absolutely no excuse for doing this repeatedly over and over again for years.
On this day 20 years ago, Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in Moscow, on Vladimir Putin’s 54th birthday.
She had spent years reporting on Putin’s Russia and exposing the atrocities committed during the Second Russian-Chechen War.
Dozens of journalists have been killed for their work during Putin’s rule, while more than 1,500 Russian journalists have been forced into exile since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine alone.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha was absolutely right when he said:
“There are 15 members of this council. 14 of them support an immediate ceasefire in one way or another. Only one state blocks an end to hostilities. And it is the aggressor itself.”
“Russia occupies the seat of the USSR illegally. The aggressor must be removed from this table,” said the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.
Russia was never a founding member of the United Nations. There are no signatures from Russian representatives on the United Nations Declaration of January 1, 1942. The Russian Federation (RSFSR or Russia) was neither a founding member of the UN nor a participant in the 1945 San Francisco Conference — unlike Ukraine, which was officially included in the list of UN founding members on April 27, 1945. Russia has never undergone any official admission procedure to the UN.
Moreover, the Russian Federation has never ratified the UN Charter, which is a mandatory requirement for member states under Article 110 of the Charter. Thus, the UN Charter is not formally binding on Russia, a fact it has consistently demonstrated throughout its modern history.
The fact that the Russian Federation continues to illegally occupy a seat in the UN and the UN Security Council is a demonstration of the complete collapse of the international order, which was based on law rather than force.
Now that Ukraine is strong, we must restore the supremacy of international law and expel Russia from the UN! Quis nisi nos!
I urge everyone to sign the international petition on this issue and strengthen the call to expel Russia from the illegally occupied seat of the USSR at the UN: https://t.co/OYSkRkhyL2
Please share the information about Oleshky everywhere you can!
Russia is starving residents of the town and nearby villages by denying food supplies and evacuation. People in Oleshky need help, or else they won't survive the winter!
Quis nisi nos!
The Ukrainian town of Maryinka was located in the Donetsk region. Before the arrival of russian troops, it was a cozy, green, and peaceful town with a population of about 10,000 people. General education and music schools, kindergartens, community centers, and local businesses operated here. Having been a frontline zone since 2014 as a result of the war in Donbas, the town lived under the constant threat of shelling for a long time, yet it preserved life and infrastructure.
Maryinka suffered absolute, total destruction, turning into a "ghost town" that has been virtually wiped off the face of the earth. The destruction of the town was the result of nearly two years of continuous, brutal artillery shelling, airstrikes, and positional assaults during the full-scale invasion. The battles for Maryinka were among the longest and most exhausting of the war. Not a single intact building remains in the town: the entire housing stock-private homesteads and apartment buildings, as well as critical infrastructure, roads, schools, and administrative facilities have been completely destroyed. The civilian population was fully evacuated by the end of 2022. In late December 2023, Ukrainian troops withdrew from the ruins of the town after it was completely obliterated by russian assaults. Currently, Maryinka is under russian occupation, presenting a landscape of solid ruins. This is what it means to neighbor russia...
#Ukraine #StandWithUkraine #Humanity
a historic building of the Zaporizhzhia National University before great russian culture and after. Europe has not seen such barbarity in at least a millennium.
All these Ukrainian cities were destroyed by russians. All the Ukrainian people killed in these cities were killed by russians. All the homes burned were burned by russians.
It is not Putin, but russian people who have committed these crimes.
Polish PM: "In May 1939, a certain French politician -a future Nazi collaborator - asked in the French press: 'Why die for Gdańsk?'
A few months later, all of Europe was dying. To those who today say this is not our war, I offer that lesson of history."
He was driving the very same infantry fighting vehicle that “flew” over a checkpoint near Mariupol. And back home, six children and a wife were waiting for him - a wife who kept asking: “What are you, a cat? Do you have nine lives?”
This is Yaroslav Seniuk. Call sign: Senia.
In May 2014, he was behind the wheel of the famous “flying BMP” that, under the command of Mykhailo Drapatyi, broke through an enemy checkpoint on the outskirts of Mariupol.
The choice was simple: either go forward or come under fire. Yaroslav remembers it as pure adrenaline.
Then came years in reconnaissance, sabotage missions behind enemy lines, and a war that would not let him go.
In 2016, he married Vasylyna, who had been waiting for him to return from the front. Then came six children. He was only home in brief stretches. In between were the Donetsk region, his brothers-in-arms, and loss.
In 2018, near Zaitseve, he lost two comrades and was severely wounded. His right arm was practically carried back inside his military jacket - it was hanging by the skin. Today, that arm is 6.5 centimeters shorter, but it is still his.
Twenty-three surgeries. More than two years of recovery. Doctors feared sepsis and told him to forget about military service.
He didn’t.
His wife tried to talk him out of returning. Her main argument was always the same: “What are you, a cat? Do you have nine lives?”
He answered that he had to protect his children and the people he had sworn to defend.
Then came Hostomel. Bakhmut. Another wound—again to his right arm. He pulled the shrapnel out himself.
And then a raid into Russia’s Belgorod region, where he commanded a squad and lost many of his men. To him, his brothers-in-arms are his second family.
Last year, his wife called his commander and spoke to him frankly. Afterward, Yaroslav was summoned and told: if you want to continue serving, you need to resolve things with your family.
He had to leave the military.
Now he is, in many ways, getting to know his own children again and helping install solar panels.
And in his village, there is a man whose family had a third child specifically so he could avoid military service.
Yaroslav cannot stand looking at people like that.
He himself could have left the military at any moment. He could have stayed beside his wife, who cried at night. But he didn’t.
Because he believes everyone has a duty to defend their country.
Both he and his wife understand that if the situation escalates again, he will immediately be back there.
They simply don’t say it out loud - so they don’t argue about it.
This is how Yaroslav Seniuk, a father of six, lives.
