Does anyone else find it odd that $200 billion is spent on cancer research every single year and the only thing to show for it is a 75% increase in cancer deaths since the 1990s?
The Italian diaspora over the past five years has produced Tether, the most profitable company per employee in the world, and Anthropic, the hottest IPO prospect in the AI market.
It is easy to say “if only Italy retained its talent”, and measures capable of slowing the outflow of more than 100,000 Italians emigrating every year would undoubtedly be welcome (which, moreover, would largely coincide with development-oriented policies, since many young people leave because abroad they can obtain higher salaries and careers are less “frozen”).
On the other hand, Tether developed around the dollar mainly because of the dollar itself, and Anthropic developed in the US mainly because that is where the “red buttons” of the internet are.
I say “mainly” because one can obviously find endless contributing factors, including a highly prolific European immigration, but at the core of the structural disadvantage lies the imperial 'exorbitant privilege' of the US, together with the superior American ability to scale companies.
And this goes back a long way: AI, including Anthropic, is financed largely by US big tech hyperscalers, which, thanks to their scale, can now invest amounts that are impossible for anyone else, public or private, to match.
In short, these are the same determinants I was talking about the other day in my long post about European “decline.”
WhatsApp encryption is a giant fraud.
The state of Texas just sued WhatsApp for lying to users about privacy — because WhatsApp employees have access to “virtually all” private messages.
Now we know what WhatsApp’s founder meant when he said he “sold his users’ privacy.”
Sta cadendo il castello. Dopo Gravina, Rocchi e Gervasoni. L’Aia va rasa al suolo per tutto l’abuso di potere di questi anni. Ora continuiamo con gli arbitri poi bisognerà passare all’asso calciatori. Cambiamo il calcio non deve essere solo uno slogan #sportitalia
This is how the EU/UK now regulates social media:
🤐 Offer CEOs secret deals to censor dissent.
🚨 If they refuse, open criminal cases against them.
😑 When people push back, say it's "all for the children".
🎭 "Protecting children" has become the standard legal/PR cover.
You are not allowed to notice that every western country opened its borders at the same time, pushed the same ideology at the same time and is experiencing the same demographic shift at the same time.
Just a coincidence. Move on.
