Adoption of air conditioning in Europe at U.S. levels would bring massive health benefits, while the emission implications would be minuscule, unlike many suggest - and, done right, it would help the clean energy transition by boosting electrification and clean energy. π§΅
@andrew_lilico The question is not so much one of human adaptability but rather of the ecosystems which sustain us. If crops fail en masse over a number of years, we're in big trouble.
@Dr_W_E_Bulmer@tomhfh It's not a question of quantity but quality. Our economy should foster industries that create skilled, high value work, and not endless vape shops and dodgy barbers.
@Dr_W_E_Bulmer@tomhfh We are poorer because other countries (e.g. China) have grown more relative to us, we have an ageing population and a comparatively shrinking workforce. Less growth would only exacerbate this. And good luck funding public services without it!
@Dr_W_E_Bulmer@tomhfh What do you think would happen if we abandoned economic growth as a country? Do you think life would get better for the average citizen? Do you think we would return to some sort of mythical Hobbiton?
@Dr_W_E_Bulmer The more devolution is given to Scotland, the more we will see English nationalism become a potent force in our politics. Can't have one without the other!
