Just a week after the productive meeting between President @ZelenskyyUa and Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, I was pleased to welcome a delegation of members of the House of Representatives of the National Diet of Japan, led by Onodera Itsunori.

I deeply appreciate this visit. At a time when Russia is intensifying its missile and drone terror against Ukraine, the delegation did not postpone its trip and came to Kyiv as planned. This is a strong demonstration of courage and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

I thanked Japan for its comprehensive support since the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. Japan's financial, humanitarian, technical and other assistance has made an important contribution to Ukraine's resilience throughout the war, as well as to our recovery and reconstruction.

We had a substantive discussion on regional and global security. Russia's growing military cooperation with North Korea, including the involvement of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine, shows how closely interconnected the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific has become. What happens in one region has direct consequences for the other.

We also discussed opportunities to deepen our security and defence cooperation. Ukraine is ready to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with Japan, drawing on our experience and capabilities, and to identify areas where our countries can strengthen each other's security.

I briefed the delegation on the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine's ongoing peace efforts. We also discussed the need to further increase pressure on Russia, prevent sanctions circumvention, and advance the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.

We paid particular attention to the situation in the Black Sea, where Russia is seeking to block navigation and undermine maritime security. Restoring safe and free navigation, which is vital for global food security and international trade, requires coordinated international efforts.

I am grateful to Japan for standing with Ukraine. We highly value our partnership and are determined to develop it further.

Finland’s Supreme Court has ruled that police may, as a last resort, use proportionate force to remove an asylum seeker’s hijab when necessary to take an official identification photograph without a head covering.

The case involved two female asylum seekers who refused on religious grounds to remove their hijabs for photographs at a Hämeenlinna police station in 2017, despite being told only female personnel would be present. Officers ultimately restrained the women and removed their hijabs.

A new scandal is unfolding in the US: hackers breached the Pentagon, and it looks serious

Attackers gained access to a Pentagon database containing the personal information of more than 3 million military personnel, veterans, department employees, contractors, and their family members.

ABC News reports this, citing a US Department of Defense representative.

The unauthorized access was first detected in October 2025. The vulnerability was only fixed on July 16, 2026.

This is at least the third major data breach in the US over the past month. At the end of August, a service called Nexus appeared on a Russian-language cybercrime forum, whose owners claimed to have millions of American driver’s licenses, documents, and medical records.
