@spudhawg@histofevery_yt2 Good for her. Very impressive.
Victory went headfirst into multiple 70+ gun ships including the 114-gun SantΓsima Trinidad in one of the most audacious naval actions in history.
But, you should rightly celebrate your little victories. Very impressive.
@spudhawg@histofevery_yt2 Constitution is a 30-gun frigate. It's cool that it's still afloat.
HMS Victory is a 104-gun first rate ship of the line. That fought at Trafalgar.
I think you got the labels the wrong way round :)
@themagiger@toiletrizzsigma@SyntheticSports I'm just stating facts.
The US has the most medals (although not per capita).
And Europe has more than double the number of medals as the US.
@themagiger@toiletrizzsigma@SyntheticSports If, by the time we weed out the non-contenders, Europe has 5 and US 2, then yes that is true.
But the point is that whether Europe sent 100 more sprinters makes no difference -- they were never going to win anyway so it doesn't affect the win chances.
@themagiger@toiletrizzsigma@SyntheticSports In the 100m you have maybe 3 contenders for the gold. And that's the same for most events.
You're not being bottlenecked by spaces. The bottleneck is talent.
Even in the Maurice Greene era, you really only had one or two athletes in contention. The extra spots don't matter.
@themagiger@toiletrizzsigma@SyntheticSports More chances to medal doesn't come in to it. The best athlete is the best athlete.
If Europe sends 5 people to the 100m and US 2, who cares? The one that wins was the best athlete.
It's not the lottery. You don't get more chances because you had more people.
@Tim9un@bmay Oh, I quite forgot about you :)
Yes, we have oil fields, actually. They're in the North Sea. Careful, we don't want them on fire like yours are :)
I asked you when. When did Ukraine try to join a military alliance?
@themagiger@toiletrizzsigma@SyntheticSports If Europeans cared about US sports, it would be dominated by Europeans.
Europe has double the medals that the US does, so I think it's fair to say a lot of the best athletes are actually European.
