Nobody is disputing that people in Cyber Hub have money to spend. But a packed restaurant district on a Saturday night tells us about a packed restaurant district on a Saturday night. It isn’t a census of city's prosperity.

More importantly the spending power is not the same as quality of life.

Where are the accessible #parks, public #libraries, #playgrounds and spaces to pursue a #hobby without first becoming somebody’s customer? If the default weekend outing involves a mall, a restaurant or a market, perhaps we should ask what other options the city offers.

People going out despite a city’s failures is not proof that those failures don’t exist. Nor does a dinner bill cancel out the commute, the dust or the missing footpath.

But I understand, we just haven’t found a table for that argument yet.
