OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS 2
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: - (Ephesians 6:16-17)
READ: Psalm 119:9-17
A believer who does not study the Bible regularly will not know the right way to respond to temptations, and hence, will keep falling in and out of sin. I know this because Jesus overcame all the temptations of the devil by quoting the Scriptures (Luke 4:1-12). From our memory verses for today, we see that after faith and salvation, a believer needs to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Any Christian who does not study his or her Bible regularly is a soldier who is without a sword. The word of God is both a weapon of offence and defence against the temptations the enemy throws at you.
David said in Psalm 119:11:
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
The verse above tells us that to overcome sin, a person's heart must be filled with the word of God; therefore, you must keep studying the word of God and meditating on it at all times. Living according to the word of God sets us apart from the world and makes us sanctified vessels unto God (John 17:17). As you keep studying God's word and obeying it, you will discover that the things of the world that used to entice you are no longer enticing to you. When the devil comes to offer you those things, you will be able to respond, "It is written," and he will have to leave you alone for a while. God's word empowers you to be sensitive to the traps of the devil and overcome them. The more you immerse yourself in God's word, the more fortified you will become against the devil's attacks.
Proverbs 1:17 says that it is vain to spread a net in the sight of any bird. Just as a bird will not enter a net that it knows to have been spread to capture and kill it, God's word will make you sensitive to see the traps of the devil. It is your victory kit over satan's wiles. Do not neglect your weapon of victory; study your Bible constantly. Know God's word concerning every aspect of your life so that when the devil tries to deceive you in any area, you will know what has been written about it and be able to use that knowledge to shut him up. At that point, sin will no longer have any power over you.
KEY POINT:
God's word is your defence and victory kit over temptations.

“BIG BROTHER NAIJA IS A RECRUITMENT CAMP FOR AGENTS OF DARKNESS.” — APOSTLE MICHAEL OROKPO
Apostle Michael Orokpo has cautioned Christians about the kind of content they consume, arguing that certain forms of entertainment can have harmful spiritual consequences.
Speaking during a sermon, Apostle Orokpo claimed that people do not need a direct encounter with evil spirits to be negatively influenced spiritually. According to him, what a person consistently watches and listens to can shape their spiritual life.
“You can be demonised from your television set if you don’t know what to watch. You can be demonised from the internet if you don’t know what to watch,” he said.
Explaining his view, Apostle Orokpo argued that spirits travel through what people see and hear, emphasizing the importance of guarding the eyes and ears.
Referring specifically to Big Brother Naija, he claimed the reality television show has a negative spiritual influence on viewers.
“They don’t know it’s a recruitment camp for agents of darkness,” he said.
Apostle Orokpo urged believers to be intentional about the media they consume, stressing that Christians should fill their hearts and minds with God’s Word rather than content they believe could draw them away from God.
His comments have sparked discussion among Christians about entertainment, media consumption, and spiritual discernment.
💬 What are your thoughts on Apostle Michael Orokpo’s warning about the spiritual impact of the content we consume?
TOPIC: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS 1
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. - (2 Peter 3:18)
READ: Titus 2:11-12, Hebrews 2:17-18
Yesterday, I discussed how you can avoid temptations by staying away from people, things, or places that may tempt you, and generally fleeing every appearance of evil. I also established the fact that everyone will be tempted at one point or another, as Jesus Christ Himself was tempted in all points (Hebrews 4:15). Today, I will explain how you can overcome temptations, just as Jesus overcame all the temptations that came His way.
The first thing you must take note of is that God will never allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. - (1 Corinthians 10:13)
When a temptation comes your way, you must know that you already have the strength that is needed to overcome it. The reason people fall to temptations is that they do not use the strength that God has made available to them. They place great focus on the shiny things the devil is tempting them with instead of the strength and grace that God has given them to overcome such temptations.
A man of God once came to me and said, "Daddy, I don't know why I keep falling into adultery with some girls in my church. I usually don't know what I am doing until I am through with the act." I responded to him, saying, "While you are about to remove your clothes, you know that you want to do something bad, but instead of stopping you decide to focus on the 'pleasure' the devil is putting in front of you instead of listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit that is telling you to stop in that moment. Sometimes you even go as far as locking the door to ensure that even if God wants to send someone in to stop you, it will not work. That is why you always fall. Listen to the Holy Spirit anytime He says, 'Stop.'"
Beloved, use the grace that God has made available to His children to stop them from falling into temptation. There is always a way out of temptation; listen to the Holy Spirit, and take the way He shows you. Do not let the devil have victory over your soul.
KEY POINT:
Always use the grace that God has provided for you to overcome temptations.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR E A ADEBOYE
For years, the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road was more than a failed highway. It became a symbol of insecurity, abandoned economic opportunities, and neglected communities.
Today, that narrative is changing.
Governor Uba Sani's meeting with the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, ahead of the groundbreaking of the 122 kilometre Mando–Birnin Gwari Road reconstruction, is proof that governance is not about promises. It is about execution.
Infrastructure is not merely about laying asphalt. Every kilometre of road completed reduces the cost of doing business, improves security by increasing accessibility, connects farmers to markets, creates jobs, and stimulates economic growth.
This is what purposeful leadership looks like.
While critics are busy manufacturing outrage on social media, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is constructing the physical foundation upon which Nigeria's future prosperity will stand.
History does not remember those who complained the loudest. It remembers those who built the nation.
The Renewed Hope Agenda is moving from policy documents to visible projects, and Nigerians are beginning to see the results where they matter most: on the ground.
