Even outside my faith, I understand why some feminists are opposed to commercial surrogacy....THEY ARE RIGHT... I agree with them
My concern is the power dynamic. In theory, a surrogate agrees voluntarily, but in practice, most women (if not all) become surrogates because they need the money, not because they have a deep desire to carry a child for someone else.
When financial desperation is a major factor, it becomes difficult to separate genuine choice from economic pressure. Pregnancy and childbirth are not trivial services...they come with physical risks, emotional burdens, and long-term health consequences.
It reduces women to mere baby factories, stripping away their humanity and individuality. That's deeply disturbing.
