I Feel A Tug
(A soliloquy, spoken aloud with passion and reverence)
I feel a tug…
Deep in the quiet chambers of my heart,
Where faith and fire have ever dwelt as one.
It pulls upon the strings of soul and sinew,
An urging born not of this fleeting hour,
But of the blood that courses through my veins—
American blood, born and forever free.
I close my eyes and stand among the first ones,
Those stout-hearted souls upon these shores.
I hear their prayers rise like morning mist,
Worshipping the God who granted them this land.
I see them till the stubborn soil with callused hands,
Raise private enterprise from dream to deed,
Teach their children Scripture, virtue, liberty—
The sacred gifts no king could ever claim.
They built their villages, their towns, their shining cities,
Not as serfs beneath a distant crown,
But as free men and women under Heaven.
Oh, how my spirit swells with joyful gratefulness!
I stand outside that humble hall in Philadelphia,
The summer air thick with destiny and ink.
I feel the quills scratching out our Constitution—
That divine architecture of ordered liberty—
And tears of awe trace down my weathered cheeks.
This is my birthright. This is my inheritance.
The tug grows stronger still—
A warrior’s tug, fierce and unrelenting.
I march with those who bled at Lexington and Concord,
Who froze at Valley Forge and triumphed at Yorktown.
I stand beside them through the long night of 1812,
Through the fields of Gettysburg and the halls of Montezuma,
The shores of Tripoli, the trenches of the Great War,
The beaches of Normandy, the frozen hills of Korea,
The jungles of Vietnam, the sands of Desert Storm,
And the righteous fury after 9/11—
Iraq, Afghanistan, and every field where tyrants fell.
I have felt the cannon’s roar in my bones,
Heard the cries of brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate price
So that this Republic might endure.
From the Revolution’s decade of defiance
To the present hour, the same fire burns.
And now—now the tug will not let me rest.
I feel it in my heart, my brain, my very soul.
A summons to rise against the gathering storm:
The twin poisons of leftism and Islamism,
Which seek in darkness to unravel all we hold.
They would tear down the altars of our fathers,
Silence the pulpits, shackle the sovereign states,
Replace liberty with chains disguised as mercy,
And bow this nation before foreign gods of tyranny.
I cannot rest.
I will not rest.
My warrior spirit answers the call as it always has—
With prayer upon my lips and resolve in my stance.
For I am American.
Born of pilgrims and patriots,
Steadfast daughter of the Republic,
Guardian of the flame that lights the world.
O God of our fathers, strengthen this tug within me.
Let it draw me—and every true son and daughter—
Into the breach once more.
We shall defend what was bought with sacred blood.
We shall keep this great nation free and independent,
Under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I feel the tug.
And by His grace, I will follow where it leads.
