@JosephONeillx I’m more amused by the assertion that the country was built on peaceful protest! I know of quite a few dead Loyalists who might disagree…
@Grace_Segers Can someone explain me why the Democrats didn't raise the debt ceiling in December when they controlled both houses? I keep looking for this but can't find an answer.
It strikes me that making an explicitly racist far-right European demagogue with a sinister-sounding name the moral figurehead of your movement could, in the hands of a competent and aggressive opposition party, be converted into a serious political strategic error
Pharma company Merck used government funds to develop a new Covid medicine.
The drug costs them less than $18 to produce. They’re charging the U.S. government $712 — 40 times the price to produce it.
Their sales could reach $7 billion by the end of the year.
An outrage.
There is so much more in this outstanding reporting by @FolaAk for Bloomberg. Barely dug in yet and have a full day of meetings. But I will be sharing more from this important article soon. For now, please read it: https://t.co/w9gHOqIrbP
Just because gas prices are going down now doesn't mean you should forget that oil companies just posted a record $46 billion profit for the last three months.
Companies do this because they know they can get away with it, which means it will happen again and again and again.
@Blake_Allen13 Why do I learn more about this bill from Twitter than the NY Times or Washington Post? All they want to write about is how this affects Biden's poll numbers or the November election.
Oil companies report record profits a month after gas prices hit record highs and everyone freaked out about inflation. If only we had a political party that could make such connections for voters...
@DeanBaker13@mattyglesias Trolling! Unless by "most people" he means the rent-seeking interests that make reform impossible. Or perhaps the logic is that a broken political system's inability to fix a broken health care system = popularity!
To recap
1. Airlines spent 96% of free cash on stock buybacks for a decade
2. They got a $50 billion bailout & cut 90,000 jobs anyway
3. They returned to billions in profits, paid back $0 to taxpayers & raised ticket prices 16%
4. They canceled the 2nd-most flights ever this year
