Deputy President of the MK Party Tony Yengeni was visibly impressed with the party’s new spokesperson, Sifiso Mahlangu, after he challenged journalists on what he described as the principles of fair journalism.
Mahlangu took issue with a Mail & Guardian journalist’s question, arguing that allegations should not be presented without proper context. He said journalists cannot simply state that “there are allegations” without specifying who made the allegations, when they were made, and what evidence supports them.
According to Mahlangu, failing to provide such details could create the impression that the journalist is the source of the allegations rather than reporting on claims made by others.
