A routine is "a sequence of actions performed as part of a regular procedure rather than for a special reason". When something is "routine", it can be perceived as dull, mechanistic, crushing creativity & agency. Yet something we see often in high performing organisations is that they build routines for innovation & improvement into their daily work. These include:
1) learning & sharing routines such as huddles, retrospectives and peer-assists
2) innovation & improvement routines such as building capability in change methods & intensive problem-solving sessions
3) leadership routines, such as regular feedback & coaching & "leadership walks" to the point of care.
Routines make improvement & learning into everyone's business. Graphic via @ScholarshipfPhd
