Some people say that #itsoknottobeok
It's ok to admit you're not ok.
Suppressing emotions is not ok.
BUT...
Everyone deserves better than to not be ok
The longer somebody is not ok, the greater the personal tragedy & risk of harm to that person.
IT'S NOT OK TO NOT BE OK.
I log onto Twitter.
There's pain, anger, outrage, hostility.
Sanctimonious self-righteousness from all sides.
I get sucked in. I lose hours of my day.
It feels miserable.
But it isn't my fault.
Eventually, my battery dies and I go do something else.
I log onto Twitter again.
There's pain, anger, outrage, hostility.
I see it.
I still get kind of sucked in - it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It's MY fault if I stick around.
I log off after 10 minutes & do something else.
Some people see the glass as half empty.
Others see the glass as half full.
But some people see the glass smashed on the floor and for these people the best place to start is by picking up the pieces.

"If you can't fly then run,
If you can't run then walk,
If you can't walk then crawl,
But whatever you do...
You have to keep moving forward."
Martin Luther King Jr
Self-compassion when change seems overwhelming entails...
1) Acknowledging that the magnitude of change includes dealing with fallout from doing things the old way.
2) Avoiding comparison with others whose circumstances are unique and distinctly different from your own.
Starting a fresh is hard work.
It's not just changing how things are done right now - on top of that it's dealing with the fallout of doing things the old way for so long.
The invisible wall that prevents people from moving forward is built on foundations of fear.
Self-reflection can help to unearth sub-conscious fears and the wall collapses.
Without self-reflection, fears remain buried and the invisible wall holds firm.
Why should you be grateful?
Because we don't live under these conditions, like billions of people do and have... ππΎ
For all its flaws, the West in 2019 is an amazing place to be.
Have some perspective and gratitude. Take advantage and don't ruin it! ππΎ
Most of us live in the wealthiest, safest, most free and most equal countries on Earth, during the wealthiest, safest, most free and fairest time in human history.
90% of Earth's population would gladly swap positions and 'problems' with you.
Remind yourself of this daily. π―
In any Western democracy, if your day-to-day happiness is even just partly dependent upon which politician happens to be in charge then you are doing something wrong.
