On June 1, our members will sit down at the table with the Report’s management for our first official bargaining session. Here’s what that will look like.
With an 11-1 vote, Fort Worth Report staff are forming a union! This victory is not exclusive to Fort Worth Reporters Guild members — our efforts will help strengthen local news in Tarrant County.

Why is the Fort Worth Report staff unionizing? Because of the lack of policies, there isn’t a safe space in the newsroom to advocate for ourselves without fear of retaliation.

Today, the Fort Worth Report’s usual planning meeting was replaced with an unannounced, closed-door, hour-long captive-audience meeting between staff, interns, and a “labor relations educator” named Elizabeth Hernandez, whom we’ve never met. Management and editors left the room.
