If you want to become a trader, first understand what a trader’s job is.
Today, I will explain the real job of a trader, which so many people misunderstand.

First, a trader’s job is to make a profit through trading, but many traders mistake it for “making money on the trade in front of them.”

No matter how great a trader is, if they could make only one trade, that trade could lose.
On the other hand, no matter how much of a beginner a trader is, they could win a single trade.

We are not playing a game of how much we can make on a single trade.
In this world, so heavily influenced by randomness, you need to move from the “game of winning and losing” to the “game of probability” if you want to keep growing your capital.

Understanding the rules of the “game of probability” and continuing to repeat your actions according to those rules is exactly what our job as traders is.

That is because probability reveals its true form only through a large sample size.
In a coin toss, even though the probability is 50%, heads could come up 80% of the time in just 10 tosses, or only 20%.
But as the number of tosses grows to 100, then 1,000, the proportion of heads tends to move closer to the true probability of 50%.
This is the law of large numbers.

In other words, short-term losing streaks and winning streaks are all already included in the statistics, and only by continuing through them does the true probability appear.
Understanding this is extremely important.

Our job as traders is to prepare a coin that is weighted in our favor, keep flipping only that coin no matter what, and build a large sample size to draw out that coin’s edge.

Seen from this perspective, a trader’s job comes down to two things.
・Having a strategy and rules with an edge
・Following those rules consistently

And the preparation that lets you do this job smoothly comes down to three things.
・Testing and practicing through a large sample size to see whether the strategy truly has an edge
・Deriving, from the strategy’s performance, a position size you can follow consistently
・Thinking long term so you can follow it consistently, and truly understanding what you are doing over a long time frame

Once you understand your job, the scope of your responsibility becomes clear.

The win or loss in front of you is not something you are responsible for.
Everything that happens while you follow the rules is a necessary result for that strategy.
The moment you start feeling responsible and thinking, “I have to do something about this,” your consistency begins to slip away.

Your job is to prepare thoroughly in advance and to “keep following the rules” so that the strategy you prepared keeps running from a long-term perspective.

This is a trader��s job.
I hope you can see that it is completely different from the “game of winning and losing” that so many people imagine.

This shift in perspective is only the beginning.
In the “game of probability,” preparation is extremely important, and it is no exaggeration to say that preparation is everything.
That is exactly why you should do the necessary preparation thoroughly.
