@kyledcheney@juliaioffe Well, to be fair, the DOJ and the Trump Administration have bulldozed the "Statute of Liberty" plenty over the last 16 months+.
@nosateki@NoContextHumans Just wait until they try a semla on Fat Tuesday in Sweden.... Holy hamburger bun with cream and marzipan floating in a bowl of hot milk.... I HAVE to book a ticket this coming spring....
@PishalskiZak@guyfelicella Interesting.
Prison cells are 146k per year. Cops start at 96k. Judges are 370k.
Now, rehab costs about 10k for 30 days. A small apartment, about 1200. The savings in just treating the addicted like humans in need of support and care is enormous. Add hospital care & no contest.
@JJJameszz@guyfelicella Good idea.
Did you know that Insite has a 57% rate of people going to rehab when they are counseled by the staff there? And that 23% of their clients never return to injecting drugs?
What's the rate when people are left on the street, or when they are taken to jail?
@BCHL_Alberta@guyfelicella Look up their stats, though. 23%of their clients go into rehab and never return to injecting drugs. That means there are 1500 fewer addicts on the street than there would be otherwise.
Oh wait... you don't care about the success stories, do you?
@razorfang@guyfelicella Except it has been proven that putting people in jail doesn't get them off drugs. So the problem remains, you've just kicked it down the road a month, and probably made the situation worse, as the addicts would have lost what support and housing they may have had prior.
@razorfang@guyfelicella What prison cell costs 1200 a month? It isn't bureaucracy that costs that much, it's land, building, staff, security.... medical issues would drive the price up even more than my quoted figure.
@razorfang@guyfelicella 2/2
What would $63m buy in housing? Well, rent for a year. That seems like a good way to keep drug use off the streets.
Rehab? 30 days is ~10k. That puts every street addict in rehab, AND leaves money at the end for a couple months rent.
Why do you want to waste money so badly?
@razorfang@guyfelicella That's a great idea.
Annual costs
Police 93,000+ each
Jail cell, 146,000 per prisoner/year
Judge 375,000 average/year.
Lets say 10 cops, 5000 addicts, 3 judges.
That comes to well over 63,000,000 a year. And that's if the addicts only stay in jail 1 month and don't return.

@JackThompsonFOX She was injured, and unable to play full games. She was also told that she wouldn't be getting the scholarship the first year. What a mole hill
@SanctaUmbra@JuryTrialReport@JackThompsonFOX You mention thousands of years of human history. Where trans people have existed in every culture in every part of the world. Since humanity began. Also exists in the animal kingdom where animals take on traits of the other gender for various reasons. Trans is natural and normal.
@NikitaSilver6@elenoresturko Bull.
There's no reason to damage a rainbow crosswalk. They aren't dangerous. They aren't being "pushed everywhere" and the rainbow flag is for all the LGBTQ+. I do note your transphobic comment, and hope you find healing. If it wasn't for the trans people, Pride wouldn't happen.

What your smart ass comment fails to realize is that supervised injection sites prevent ODs, & give addicts a 1st point of contact with rehab, medical care, and re-integration with society.
Stats for Insite. 57% entered rehab, 23% quit injecting entirely.
People aren't geese.
@Lam_mour@guyfelicella Are you saying that the addicted are just like geese? Never mind that they are human beings, suffering from trauma, and need care and compassion, instead of being dismissed and tossed aside for our convenience.
But yeah, if you bring addicts inside, there ARE less of them.
