Akhtar might excel in poetry but he is not a man who has read or understood scripture. He asked why religion doesn’t make the society better. The Quran, at multiple places, advocates helping the poor and needy, taking care of orphans, removing toxic emotions like jealousy, greed, and arrogance, writing down fair means of business contracts etc. But since the topic was about the existence of God, Mufti Shamail didn’t address Akhtar’s ignorance of the moral code of ethics prescribed by God.

In the ‘Does God Exist?’ debate between Javed Akhtar & Mufti Shamail Nadwi, @Javedakhtarjadu and the audience kept brining up the killing of children in Gaza to question if God exists. Somebody should have asked Akhtar the question, “If genocide was reason to disbelieve in God’s existence, why are people in Gaza choosing to continue to believe in God, ever so strongly?”

Many videos show families in Gaza glorifying Allah even as they sob over the bodies of their loved ones. When those who are actually suffering the genocide are continuing to believe in God’s Mercy, then should not the so-called “thinking” atheists ponder over this point? Nobody in the audience asked this question. One person did ask it in a general sense – that suffering does push some people towards God – and the excellent moderator Saurabh Dwivedi @saurabhtop called it a “sundar sawaal” – but Akhar’s answer was nothing but a ramble.

@muftishamail was articulate, sharp & focused on the topic unlike Akhtar, but it would have been better if he hadn’t used academically-heavy jargon, which possibly made many people miss his point.

He is young and not seasoned like Akhtar, hence he couldn’t retort well enough on the Gaza question. But I guess this is his first major public debate, so hopefully, he’d be better in future engagements.

Also, the most unintelligent & easily-refutable thing Akhtar said was that all the fancy flowers are hybrids created by man through crosspollination. But surely, these so-called “manmade” flowers need to rely on water, soil, sunlight, rain, wind etc – none of which is made by man.

Finally, Akhtar said “yeh kayaanaat jo banai gayi hai”. He used the word “banai”. Iska matlab kisi ne kayannat ko “banaya” hai, koi “bananewala” hai usko. It was a classic slip of the atheist tongue.

Only jews could easily and quickly imagine such things, for instance, as 40 babies beheaded, babies cooked in ovens, and pregnant women slashed with their infants ripped out, because jews themselves have been doing exactly those things to Palestinians. There is no doubt in my mind.

The number of missing Palestinian children will probably never be known. Nor may we ever know what jews do to them when nobody is around to document it.
