The collision also claimed the lives of her companion, Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul, who also served as the acting security manager of Hôtel Ritz Paris.

Trevor Rees-Jones, employed as a bodyguard by Dodi's father, survived the crash but sustained a serious head injury.

Diana's televised funeral on September 6 was watched by a British television audience that peaked at 32.1 million, making it one of the highest viewing figures ever recorded in the United Kingdom.
