Thirty four years ago on July 3rd, 1988 I was onboard the USS Vincennes CG-49 when we were attacked by Iranian forces. IranAir Flight 655 was shot down in the fighting. I reported onboard for my first sea duty only 2 weeks before. Best group of guys I ever served with.
