Recently I added a postpartum patient into my clinic who nurses deemed whiny. She had postpartum cardiomyopathy with an EF of 20%. My mantra this week = Don’t dismiss whiny patients, they get sick too. Don’t contribute to maternal mortality because of bias.

For 4 years I have fought to provide the best care for a patient who desperately needed a hyst. After years of blood transfusions and years of fighting the system...we were heard and she got the care she deserved today. The perfect way to end my residency.

The end of residency is so weird. In between studying, I’ve talked to so many people. Lawyers, financial planners, notaries, realtors, bankers. Know who I haven’t talked to very much? Patients. So ready to stop adulting and go back to my doctoring bubble.

Today I showed up (mostly uninvited) to a hospital admin meeting to discuss OB patient safety. I was the first resident to go to these meetings. Maternal mortality involves all of us. Your voice is important. We aren’t “just” residents. #WomenInMedicine #maternalmortality

My fave thing about my spouse is he never gives me grief when I stay late at work & is always understanding of my dedication to my career. We both work hard & have an understanding not to fight about work & just make our lives work around it. Also, he cooks.

Take it from your friendly neighborhood #breastsurgeon, who is very much pro-#lactation and in favor of supporting #breastfeeding mothers - FED IS BEST. Not everyone can breastfeed safely/effectively, and breastfeeding must be balanced with well-being of mom.
