@tsschmidty@KeeganKorf@ChapmanU My biggest takeaway was that instead of planting a seed of fear in children that they have the power to destroy their reputation, we need to empower them to use social media for good. We need to move away from fear tactics when teaching kids about digital citizenship #IES451Chat
@tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker I had never heard of the flipped classroom approach! It gives students the chance “to control the pace of their learning, which is particularly helpful for students who struggle, need
accommodations, or are not native English speakers” (p. 146).
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU#IES451Chat#BlendedLearning I want to teach primary grades and I worry that blended learning isn't the the best approach for young students because they need more face to face contact and hands on activities. I'm not sure if I could support them enough through blended learning.
@tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker Students are agents of their own learning and "are more motivated to engage in higher order thinking and working when learning is relevant and purposeful" (Tucker, 2016 p. 80). Real world projects tap into student passion and produce the best outcomes.
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU@Catlin_Tucker#IES451Chat#BlendedLearning Formative assessments may be a challenge in blended or online learning environments because we may not see or hear students as much with screens interfacing our interactions. Face-to-face classroom assessment strategies may not translate to online.
@Catlin_Tucker@tsschmidty#IES451Chat In blended learning environments, students become agents and owners of their learning process. Students become drivers of their own learning, starting from a young age.

Great analogy! We need to think and act like Netflix, not like Blockbuster. Remember that a model that works, sometimes needs to be changed. Teachers, keep this in mind- what can you do different?

@tsschmidty@ChapmanU#IES451Chat#PBL#DesignThinking@spencerideas@tsschmidty We must bring innovation and creativity in classrooms in order to generate new ideas and give students the opportunity to express themselves. Creative and innovative classrooms are also more engaging and fun for students!
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU#ies451chat Technology is one of the most useful tools to create inclusive classrooms for special needs students because there are so many resources that can aid in their learning and remove barriers, such as text to speech tools, Kurzweil 3000, FM systems, and word prediction.
@tsschmidty @Flipgrid @ChapmanU It is so important that ELL are empowered in their learning. Flipgrid allows for ELL to practice speaking aloud without intimidation or penalty. They can repeat and rehearse. ELL can get conversational practice using the student to student reply function #IES451chat#flipgrid4ELs
@tsschmidty Technology gives us so many great resources and platforms that can engage students, such as PollEv and Jamboard. Today students are constantly surrounded by technology and by using it in the classroom we can engage them and excite them because they can relate to it!
Loved this blog post from Marc and Angel Hack Life! "Even when it seems personal, rarely do people do things because of you, they do things because of them." So many great messaged on this blog. #IES451chat@tsschmidty@marcandangel

Are you a Giver or a Taker? This Give and Take Quiz is a great way to reflect on your personal values and motives! I scored 47% Giver, 33% Matcher, and 20% Taker. #IES451chat@tsschmidty@AdamMGrant

#IES451Chat@tsschmidty@tonysinanis Student video updates are a creative way to show what kids are learning and working on in the classroom, and it benefits both the students and their parents. I loved seeing how excited the kids were to film the videos! https://t.co/8yc4yhoHOx
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU#IES451chat@ChapmanU@tsschmidty Social media could be incorporated into the classroom when it is appropriate and guided by the teacher. It plays a big role in our society and would be a great tool to engage students while helping them learn how to use it effectively and safely.
