A huge misconception on the possibility of American intervention in Venezuela is the idea that it would be unilateral.

That could not be further from reality.

The fact is that many countries in the Caribbean have been more than willing to aid the US in their efforts against Venezuela, even countries that have been historically against US measures in the region.

A few examples are Trinidad and Tobago who lend ports and logistical support, Guyana which signed a cooperation and mutual defense agreement with the US, and many countries in Latin America endorsing the designation of the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

This is not due to an ideological change, this is purely over national security interests from these countries who have also been affected in a broader intensity by the Venezuelan regime and the crisis they generated.

In the case of Guyana is also the latent threat of invasion from Venezuela over the Essequibo region.

So this is not a “imperialist crusade of evil expansionist America”, this is a joint effort by affected states dealing with a common threat to their interests.

Obviously for the US this also involves a broader campaign to remove China, Russia, and Iran from the continent and diminish Cuban regional influence.
