Akira Toriyama’s vehicle designs are one of the most overlooked aspects of Dragon Ball.

Toriyama designed Dragon Ball’s vehicles with a clear appreciation for real-world automotive design. Many feature chrome details, period-inspired body lines, and proportions reminiscent of actual cars from the 1950s through the 1970s, giving the world a tangible sense of place.

While most of the attention goes to the characters and fight scenes, Toriyama’s vehicles are often overlooked. Yet they were carefully integrated into the world, helping establish its distinctive visual style and blend of futuristic technology with retro automotive design.
