Imagine if girls were introduced to menstruation like this:
“Your body contains one of the most remarkable regenerative systems in nature. Every month, your uterus builds and sheds tissue in a process so complex that scientists continue to study how it works.”
Instead of:
“Here’s a pad. Don’t let anyone see it.”
“Hide it in your sleeve on the way to the bathroom.”
“Don’t talk about it.”
“Don’t let the boys know.”
From the very beginning, many girls are taught embarrassment before understanding.
Silence before education.
Shame before curiosity.
A normal biological process becomes something to hide rather than something to learn about.
What if we taught girls that their bodies are fascinating instead of inconvenient?
What if the first lesson was knowledge instead of secrecy?
The more we understand our bodies, the less power shame has over us.
I’ll choose curiosity every time.
One core job you need to do as an adult is to consciously train yourself not to be like your parents. And the first way to go about this is to admit that, just like every other human, they are flawed.
The average African parent is judgemental, tribalistic, a people-pleaser, cares so much about what people who don’t matter or give a sh!t about you or them would say, and wants their children to be an extension of them. They want to continue living through you.
They fail to understand that you are a person whose entire life is different from theirs. Someone who has to make choices and face the consequences of those choices alone.
At first, you’ll think they mean well for you, but it is just them trying to live through you.
African parents, a vast majority of them, don’t speak well about other tribes, especially when it comes to marriage. They think every tribe is flawed but theirs. They are not even subtle about it.
And this makes you wonder if they really care about your happiness or some culture that is already outdated.
When an African parent wants to give you marital advice, their concerns are basically where the person is from, their religion, and probably their age.
They do not consider your happiness, which is the most concerning thing about marriage.
I personally don’t think anyone should have a say in whom you spend the rest of your life with. Advice is very much welcome. But when you start drifting towards condemning your children’s CHOICES, it is no longer advice.
And as someone who always says we should cut our parents some slack because it is their first time being parents, I now think that normalizing that isn’t good for accountability.
I do not want to go into details about how religion has taken a toll on them and how it influences their decision-making in a bad way.
The irony is, they go about parenting this way, then wonder why they are not friends with their grown-up children. They wonder why their children would rather maintain a long-distance relationship with them. They wonder why they can’t confide in them.
They don’t even realize how judgemental they are.
But maturing is realizing that African parents, especially, are very flawed, and it is your responsibility to do the work and not end up like them. Else, you’ll become the same thing you don’t like about their parenting, and that may affect your relationship with your kids in the future.
To be a better adult, and a better parent, you must first of all, break the pattern.
The definition of a good life is completely subjective, but there really should be a world where everyone gets to enjoy whatever they consider a good life without facing constant hardship...
Nigeria is just so incredibly unfair... Some of us aren’t even asking for luxury; we literally just want the basic things to keep up with life and enjoy our days in peace…
One thing y’all completely fail to understand is that some of these things are just performances and actions to some of us… Take me for example: I visit my woman’s parents, my own parents, and relatives, and I comfortably do exactly as they do… But the very moment I walk out that door, none of it leaves with me… I don’t see any of it past standard 'actions' or 'activities' based on people’s personal beliefs... Do I share those same beliefs? Hell no… I will literally argue with people and quote the bible just to back up a point... Is it the word of a god to me? Hell no… Is it just a book? Hell yes...
Prayers and curses are just wishes and words, nothing else, nothing more… It costs me absolutely zero to say "amen" when someone wishes me well, just as a sign of respect to them and their routine so I can avoid long talk... But deep down, I know it’s all just words... If you wish me journey mercies back home, common sense still tells me I have to drive responsibly and stay road-aware if I actually want to increase my own chances of getting home safely...
A PRAYER FOR ALL THE FIRSTBORNS
To every firstborn,
May you find clarity when life feels uncertain.
May strength meet you in every responsibility.
May favour lead you to the right opportunities.
May you never lack what you need.
May wisdom guide your decisions.
May your sacrifices never cost you your peace.
May you receive the same love you freely give.
May God lighten your burdens.
May your dreams have room to breathe.
May you find support when you need it.
May your efforts bring meaningful rewards.
May you flourish beyond your responsibilities
May God go ahead of you, remain beside you, and hold you up when you grow tired.
Oh No. Trust me, they are not crying. It’s perfectly okay for a woman NOT to be married if marriage will reduce her life span or have her partnered with a fool. You’re creating false narratives in your head. Let women BE! Men are the ones who rush to marry months after they become widowers. No woman should be shamed or forced into marriage. Not even with the growing misogyny and femicide in the world and even if anyone wants to marry, it shouldn’t be with a man with your mindset.
I i was telling my wife the other day that I feel so bad for Gen zs and the generation after them.
I was at an event that had a lot of them, and it was just sad.
Bad Govt and bad economy have robbed them of having a vibrant social life.
They hardly buy drinks at the club, can't afford cars, and can't afford decent apartments, so they create their own little way of having fun in raves and the likes.
No money to afford drinks. That's why you see prevalent recreational drug use in that demographic
From Uni, I was able to properly plan and go clubbing and will have such an amazing time, i would fly from Benin to Lagos with 10k then and not pay it any thought.
When I started working, my first car was 700k, a 2006 EOD in 2012 then, and when I moved to my first apartment. Rent was 1m for a 2bed on the island, and 1hp ac was 60k.
I remember buying a ticket to Venice for 180k and changing 2000usd for 360k at southern sun that year.
I feel so bad for them, their youth taken away from them because bad govt after bad govt, devaluation after devaluation.
1. Men know exactly what they are doing. Always remember that.
2. It is not your responsibility to change a man. In fact, you cannot change a man, but you can change the man. Read that again.
3. Men will treat you based on how they feel about you and how you carry yourself. If he’s not treating you with care, he doesn’t like you. Don’t make excuses for him.
4. No man can go a day without talking to a woman he is in love with.
5. An inconsistent man doesn’t like you. Only showing up when it is convenient for him is a red flag 🚩
6. There is no such thing as a nonchalant man. That man doesn’t like you. He’s “chalanting” elsewhere.
7. If a man cheats on you and you find out, and instead of leaving the relationship you choose to stay, he will start seeing you as a foól.
8. Your self-respect must be greater than your feelings and libido. Do not ever beg a man to love you. Begging is disgusting.
9. Men are very thoughtful when they are in love. They make time, plan things, and put effort where their heart is. A low-effort man doesn’t like you.
10. The highest form of love is consideration. Any man who doesn’t consider you, how his actions make you feel, or how to make your life easier within his capacity doesn’t like you. Walk away.
11. Lastly, you accept the love you think you deserve. However a man treats you, if you stay, you are a willing participant, not a victim. If you think you deserve better, you know exactly what to do.
If your wife can’t bring up something difficult without you getting defensive, you’re showing her silence is safer than honesty.
And that’s how you
become roommates.
In all I have read about men tweeting like women, I haven't seen any man post about:
-Men should be submissive to their wives.
-Men should enter the kitchen and keep the house running.
-No intercourse on the first date or after consistent spending.
Ironic isn't it.
Grief Diary Entry:
As a young Person living in Nigeria, Pls take your Life and Your Health very Serious. The morning When I went to deposit my Father’s body at the Mortuary I signed a Massive Ledger Book. Where you put down all the information about the deceased especially the Age that they were at Passing. I noticed that Most people in Lagos are dying at 9, 14, 23, 31, 44, 47, 51, 56, 61. My father passed on at 82 yrs old. He was the oldest death there by many pages. They also brought in a Young Muslim Boy who had died of a Drug Overdose that morning at 22 yrs old. I remember His aged father randomly kept crying out “How was he still taking hard drugs during Ramadan?” If you never bury Pesin you no go know say many people dey die Daily. 😢💔 We all think we have Time and we will all live till we are old and Grey but That Ledger book was a very Jarring experience. People are dying EARLY AF. A 60 yr old in Nigeria now is technically an elderly person. Pls Take your Life and your Health very Serious IF YOU ARE A NIGERIAN LIVING IN NIGERIA. #RIPSirClem 😢💔🕊️
