The #bbuzz #barcamp kicks off in 1 hour, and the schedule grid is ready! This year we’re trying something new, dedicated slots for first time presenters to give speaking a try. We are a friendly bunch, see how you like public speaking!

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

On Monday, I'm talking at Berlin Buzzwords #bbuzz on "Laptop-sized ML for Text, with Open Source"

I tried asking LLaMA-13B to make a cool marketing tweet for me, but it produced:
I'm not sure what you mean by "Laptop-Sized" LLMs...

Luckily I do know!

@nrmueller @berlinbuzzwords Hopefully @ACorresponder will come too! Looking forward to seeing everyone, and doing mad things with coloured post-it notes as we run the BarCamp 😁

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@eyebrowsofpower It's even better than that - there's two different filesystems in the file! The main one, and the "Mini Stream" for things where a 512 byte sector lead to too much waste, which has its own FAT and blocks...

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@baconandcoconut Arthur C Clarke’s short story “Trouble With Time” might count, or might be an example of doing it even worse...

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@_tallison @acoliver Yup - https://t.co/DzRTHD9xSu . If they aren’t on the latest stable release, see https://t.co/anAvCA13HN for ideas....

Listen to our latest conversation with @gagravarr, host of our always wonderful Barcamp. Nick and @nrmueller discuss how the Barcamp allows for discussions on cutting edge and specialist topics, the democratic nature of Barcamp scheduling, and more.

@stevejalim The Sydney early ones looked quite good on the news, maybe download those / midnight ones, and play it back timeshifted appropriately for the kids?

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@_tallison @TheASF It’s the ASF, the answer is always a list! And normally one we’ve done a terrible job letting newer folks know about....

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@covolution Not hugely - it'd need a special detector to check for something that looked like the 64 bit int, then compute the crc32 then see if that follows, then deal with false positives. Real pain they didn't slap something like TFR1 on the front!

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@neilmcer @samuel_langlois Shall we all join @covolution in Spain where it’s nice and warm? Otherwise Berlin is tempting after all the Berlin Buzzwords trips there :)

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@pjf The cool serverless CSV to data browser I just mentioned is datasette - https://t.co/rpeOLltmAJ - by @simonw

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

I can also very much recommend this thread summarising my talk, from the Tim, who did much of the fixing work I mentioned! :)

For everyone who couldn't make it out to Berlin, the video from my #bbuzz talk last week is now online! "Scalably crashing JVMs, or why binary data to content is hard" (featuring @ApacheTika) https://t.co/e48w0yt0KF

[@[email protected] @berlinbuzzwords]

You can now watch @gagravarr's #bbuzz 2018 talk – Scalably crashing JVMs, or why binary data to content is hard - here: https://t.co/OOC1gnI0H5

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

At #FOSSBack @Fossbckstg and wanting to know more about "all that Apache stuff"? Come along to The Apache Way session at 4.30pm (after coffee!) to hear what the ASF is, and how we help our communities build their projects!

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@gasmanic Google suggests you really are in an Indie hotel! I've only ever seen that brand in (chain) UK Holiday Inns though.

If you can, get over to the Falkirk Wheel from there, it's Engineering-tastic :)

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@gasmanic Is that at a Holiday Inn? #hotelgeek #iknowthosewell :)

[Nick Burch @gagravarr]

@ApacheTika @_tallison @EPAMSYSTEMS @TheASF Yup! And also trying to figure out what a "helpful summary" of a 100+ mb .sas7bdat file would be, so we can have an Alfresco "friendly preview" to go with the Tika-powered full text extraction/indexing :)

@andrewjskatz Another good article recently was on using Latin in political debate to bully, and weaponised football knowledge as a counter-attack: https://t.co/ZHTMtLBdEe
