Community led monitoring of illegal mining in Ghana. Citizen reporting // Land recovery // Post-mining agriculture// Responsible mining advocate. GALAMUSTGO
Galamsey affects real people like farmers, fishers, traders, families. GalamWatch is a civic platform built to help citizens report illegal mining and support the recovery of affected lands through practical, commercial agriculture.
On Friday, the Regional Deputy Police Commander invited the organizers of the #StopGalamseyNow protest, scheduled for Friday, 27th February 2026, to a meeting at 10 a.m. this morning.
At the meeting, we were informed that the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) is also scheduled for the same day, and we were urged to change the protest date due to what was described as “insufficient security resources.”
Since 10 a.m., we have deliberated extensively, and we are resolute: our protest will go on as planned.
This youth-led, non-partisan, and peaceful call to protect our lands, forest reserves, and water bodies will not be sidelined. The organizers of the #StopGalamseyNow protest have formally responded to the police’s request to postpone the date, making our position clear.
If coming out in our numbers to demand accountability and an end to galamsey causes inconvenience to the President and his appointees, so be it.

Check out this map from the Amazon Mining Watch, of mining sites across the Ashanti Region from 2018 - 2020. Understanding the scale of Galamsey is very necessary in the fight. That is why we built Galamsey Reporter. https://t.co/i2hKF4KZDQ
